What is a Trapezoid ?

A trapezoid is a quadrilateral (four-sided polygon) with at least one pair of parallel sides. The parallel sides are called the bases of the trapezoid, and the distance between the bases is the height. Trapezoids can have equal or unequal lengths for their bases.

The formula for calculating the area (A) of a trapezoid is given by:

A = ½ x (b1+b2) x h

where:

• A is the area of the parallelogram
• b1 is the length of the parallel sides one
• b1 is the length of the parallel sides two
• h is the perpendicular distance between the bases and its opposite parallel side.

To find the area, you multiply the length of the base by the height. It's important to note that the height is the perpendicular distance between the base and its opposite parallel side.
