What is a Parallelogram ?

A parallelogram is a four-sided polygon with opposite sides that are parallel and equal in length. Additionally, opposite angles in a parallelogram are equal. It is a special case of a quadrilateral, and its properties make it useful in geometry and various mathematical applications.

The formula for calculating the perimeter (P) of a parallelogram is given by:

P = 2 x (a+b)

where:

  • A is the perimeter of the parallelogram
  • a and b are the lengths of two adjacent sides (edges) of the parallelogram.

This formula works because opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal in length. By adding the lengths of all four sides, you account for each side twice, hence the need to multiply by 2 in the formula.
