Bit Per Second (bps) - Definition and Overview

bps unit of measurement used to express the rate at which data is transferred from one location to another in a data network.

When data transfer rates are expressed in Bit Per Second, it means that the amount of data being transferred is measured in terms of Bits over a period of one Second.

Bit (binary digit) is the most basic unit of information in digital computing and communications systems. Bit is the smallest unit to represent digital data. A bit represents a logical state with one of two possible values either 1 or 0. The unit symbol for bit is b.

Nibble Per Second (nibbleps) - Definition and Overview

nibbleps unit of measurement used to express the rate at which data is transferred from one location to another in a data network.

When data transfer rates are expressed in Nibble Per Second, it means that the amount of data being transferred is measured in terms of Nibbles over a period of one Second.

Nibble is an aggregation of four bits. It is also called a quadbit or a half-byte. Nibble can have up to 16 possible values.

How to Convert Bit to Nibble?

1 Bit is equal to 0.25 Nibble. To convert Bit to Nibble, use this simple formula:

Nibble = Bit x 0.25

So, just multiply the number of Bit by 0.25 to get equivalent value in Nibble.

Example 1:

Convert 5 Bit to Nibble
5 x 0.25 = 1.25 Nibble

Example 2:

Convert 7.5 Bit to Nibble
7.5 x 0.25 = 1.875 Nibble
