Megabit Per Second (Mbps) - Definition and Overview

Mbps unit of measurement used to express the rate at which data is transferred from one location to another in a data network.

When data transfer rates are expressed in Megabit Per Second, it means that the amount of data being transferred is measured in terms of Megabits over a period of one Second.

One Megabit is equal to 10^6 or 1000^2 Bits. Megabit is a decimal unit defined as per SI standard. 1 Megabit = 1000 Kilobits. The unit symbol for Megabit is Mbit or Mb. Megabit is not same as Mebibit (Mib) that contains 1024^2 bits. 1000 Megabits = 1 Gigabit (Gbit).

Byte is a unit of digital information that most commonly consists of eight bits. A single byte can be used to represent 256 different values. 1000 bytes = 1 Kilobyte (KB). 1024 bytes = 1 Kibibyte (KiB).

How to Convert Megabit to Byte?

1 Megabit is equal to 125000 Byte. To convert Megabit to Byte, use this simple formula:

Byte = Megabit x 125000

So, just multiply the number of Megabit by 125000 to get equivalent value in Byte.

Example 1:

Convert 5 Megabit to Byte
5 x 125000 = 625000 Byte

Example 2:

Convert 7.5 Megabit to Byte
7.5 x 125000 = 937500 Byte
